MESSAGE FROM WOLLONGONG SPORTING CAR CLUB

After a 2 year break Wollongong Sporting Car Club is once again hosting a round of the NSW Hillclimb Championship. Huntley Hillclimb has been in operation now for 57 years. While not the longest event nor the most famous hillclimb on the NSWHCC circuit, it is many competitor's favourite. The track is just over 700 metres long, and is a true hillclimb with some serious incline. Some high speed sweepers along with a challenging series of esses to test your mettle.

The hill has had major safety improvements with extensive clearing of the roadsides and installation of more tyre barriers. The move from our traditional May event to September should see some much warmer temperatures and elimate the problem of driving into the sun towards the end of the day.

We hope you will join us in our long awaited return for Round 8 on Sunday September 26. Entry forms and Supplememntary Regulations will be available for download from the club's website at http://wscc.org.au/huntley.shtml from Friday 20th August. If you have any difficulty in downloading please let me know via return email or by phone on 0423 189 679 and I can email/fax/post them to you.

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Eric Barnes, New South Wales Hillclimb Champion in 1999 driving a supercharged Farrell F2. A past champion in karting, a successful businessman and hardworking member of the Tamworth Sporting Car Club. Eric was a regular competitor in the NSW and National Championships in the 90’s before trying his hand at circuit racing in sedans.

Eric died recently as the result of a motorbike accident at Ilford, NSW. On behalf of the Hillclimb Fraternity, sincere condolences to Eric's family and friends.
