ARCHIVED REPORT: Canberra Hillclimb RD 1 2009

Date: 15/2/09 | Host Club: SDMA

Weather Report: Dampish early but well on the way to dry midway through the first run, far better that the 40 degree conditions experienced a week before according to the hard working SDMA crew!

Defending champion Tim Edmondson (Force PC) took the early lead and went on as conditions improved to set Fastest Time of 40.70s (a couple of tenths outside the course record). Tim commented later “We had a good year in 2008 and this year is already starting to look promising…bring on Rounds 2 & 3 at Bathurst!”

Second outright was Michele Guyer, also showing good form in the March Formula Holden (42.90s), followed by Ron Hay in the historic Group R RH Honda (43.43s). Ron had some uncharacteristic wing maladies during the day but calmly demonstrated a total disregard for aerodynamic theory by lowering his own class record with a collapsed rear wing! (See photo).

Stephen Hooker in the (Jedi/Suzuki) took a creditable fourth outright in the Jedi/Suzuki (nicely repaired after his Bulahdelah excursion last year) just ahead of Phil Pratt (Trojan) and Tom Donovan (Pilbeam).

Steve Moxon (Axtell Suzuki) nailed down seventh outright ahead of Nick Mason (Sparrow), Searle Courtwright sharing the Axtell Suzuki. Top Tin Top (and tenth outright) went to Mark Guyer in the family GTR Nissan while fastest Junior was Andrew Frost (Suzuki).
