NEWS: 50th Anniversary Mt Porcupine Hillclimb

Special Celebrations for 50th Anniversary Mt Porcupine Hillclimb at Gunnedah, 1-2 September 2018

“Mount Porcupine” 50th anniversary Hill Climb is on, organised and promoted by a Committee from: Gunnedah Motor Enthusiasts Club, assisted by the Tamworth Sporting Car Club at Apex Drive, Porcupine Lookout, Gunnedah.

The event will be celebrating the 50 year anniversary of Apex Drive Hill Climb competition in Gunnedah. Prior to the commencement of Sunday’s competition, following Scrutineering and Drivers Briefing. A Demonstration (CAMS NCR-20b – untimed runs) will be conducted with selected scrutineered historic vehicles and selected drivers/passenger. This Demonstration will be preceded by a brief invitation reopening ceremony 9.45am at the bottom of the hill/Start line. People that helped reinstate Apex Drive as a hillclimb venue, GME sponsors, media and interested parties will be invited to the 50th anniversary re-opening ceremony.

Once re-opening and demonstration completed, competition will include as a minimum 4 runs of the historic course.

Of Saturday evening 1 September, an informal 50th anniversary get together function of BBQ and Guest Speaker (Dave Morrow – Bathurst entrant and former HDT and Ford Works rally ace), to be held at the Enclosed BBQ Area, Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club, from 6.15pm – 8.15 pm. $20 per person, Guest Speaker 7.15 pm. Accommodation Motels in Gunnedah may be short on 1 September, with large wedding, a ball at town hall and another entity conducting a ½ mile aerodrome sprint of Saturday, Camping available to Hillclimb entrant’s at Porcupine Reserve top car park and surrounds (portaloo’s), or phone a friend.

It’s not a State Round but it is run under CAMS Permit and is an event not to be missed by keen motor sport competitors.
