ROUND 3 REPORT
Round 3, Bathurst Mountain Straight, April 18th 2010

Sunday, it was all on again, for Round 3, Mountain Straight, all 1.7kms of it. This time Tim Edmonson (Gould GR55B) grabbed the advantage and was never headed, lowering the outright record (which Tim held in the Force PC) to 39.34s.

Doug Barry (Lola F3000) steadily worked his times down to 40.61s for second outright while Peter Gumley (Wortmeyer SCV) had to battle the frustrations of an underperforming car to post a best of 40.99s.

Malcolm Oastler sprang a surprise to be next quickest at 45.52 (and a new record - not bad for a wingless car), Steve Hooker was close behind while Stu Inwood again had the GTR under the existing record in sixth outright.

Steve Moxon just managed to hold the advantage over Searle Courtright, both going under the old record in the Axtell Suzuki. Mathew Barnes put the Celica over the line next with Michele Guyer rounding out the top ten.

Stacks of other records fell, Bradley Shiels in the RX7, Ray Bromley in the bike powered Charade, Paul Finch (PRB), Aiden Curlewis (Datsun Coupe), Heath Campbell (VW Beetle), Phil Haynes (Falcon Coupe) and finally Steve Purdy (Little Red Car).

In all, a top weekend of motorsport.

Notes:

Congratulations to the BLCC for another well run weekend.

The Group Sb boys were at it again, all three under Bob Wootton’s record and only separated by a second at the end. Mike Allen looked to have it wrapped up by a whisker until “Last Chance” Steve Purdy stirred the Midget to a win on the final run.

Paul Finch (aka the “Silver Surfer”) impressed all with the PRB’s extra speed ……and his stylish new suit. Mind you, Malcolm O thought he looked like a cross between “The Stig” and the “Michelin Man”!

Full marks to Team Edmondson for the first up win. It must have been quite a relief after upending the car in a trailering mishap the week before.
