Event Guide
Ringwood Park Hillclimb is on the Club’s land 10 kms north of Raymond Terrace (off Italia Road) and has been in existence over 25 years. It was originally built by the Newcastle Motor Racing Club and purchased by MG Car Club Newcastle at the expiration of  NMRC’s lease.

The NMRC was absorbed into the MG Car Club and since acquiring the venue, many improvements have been made to the complex.
The hillclimb is some 500 metres in length with the record now 28 seconds. This hillclimb is fairly unique as competitors proceed up the hill, around a loop and back down to the finish line.

Recently, improvements have been completed on the timing and LCD displays now give real time timing, competitor, class and outright times, enabling competitors to check their progress during the day’s competition.

Saturday Practice
Practice will be available on Saturday as detailed in the Supplementary Regulations.

Timing Display
Timing display (LCD monitors) are located in the front of the Administration Building and show competitors in real time, their times, class times and outright positions. Times are shown for three splits, i.e. start time, half way time and total time, enabling competitors to analyse their own progress and the comparison with other competitors. A theoretical time (fastest time for each section) is also given to give drivers a target.

At this venue, competitors are given 2 consecutive runs at the hillclimb each time they proceed to the start (see Supplementary Regulations), which is unusual in hillclimbing.
The start is controlled by “traffic lights” and there is a slight depression at the start line for the front wheels negating the need to use brakes to hold the vehicle on the line.

Food Providers
A canteen will operate at the venue, providing hot food and drinks.

Spectators
Spectators are well catered for in an area that affords excellent viewing of the entire hillclimb and there are some playground facilities for children. Adequate parking is available for spectators.

The Stig

"This is a tight 500mtr track that can be a real handful if your car isn’t spot on.

Turn 1, you want to be over hard against the witches hats on the finish line, if you apex this right it will set you up for tree corner. Out of this corner you need to be hard left against the guardrail, and watch the crossover. Upon entry to the loop, leaving your entry a little late will help you round the loop, however too early on the power will see you lawn mowing Doug Rae’s lawn in the centre !.

Out of the loop and into the crossover, this is where you can make up time on the downhill slide. Get the car over the concrete edge on the LHS at the crossover, this will pull the car round the corner, however if its been wet, look out for the seepage in the cracks. Up to tree corner, too fast and you will understeer off into the gravel trap. As close to the tree as you can mid corner will set you up for the next short straight.

The final turn could also bring you undone with a too rapid entry, so make sure you line it up right otherwise you will end up out in the sticks and remember not to knock over the witches hats and flags on the final turn as this will incur you one of John Collin’s finest 5sec penalties."
